“Good morning” in Kyrgyz is кайырлуу таң! Кайырлуу means “blessed, good” and таң is “dawn, morning”. The same pattern gives кайырлуу күн! (good afternoon) and кайырлуу кеч! (good evening).
Таң ends in the nasal ң — the back of the tongue meets the soft palate, as in English “song”. Кайырлуу ends in a long “uu”: kayyr-LOO. These greetings work with strangers too: they are polite and age-neutral.
The same greeting — кайырлуу таң! — or саламатчылык. People usually follow with кандайсыз? (“how are you?”).
The evening greeting is кайырлуу кеч. Before sleep say жакшы жатыңыз, “good night” (literally “lie well”).
It works for both: polite but not officious, so it fits family and strangers alike.
